Harry and Meghan call for action on web misinformation on Colombia tour

Prince Harry has said “we are no longer debating facts” as he called on people in positions of power to do more to stop the spread of online misinformation and abuse.

The Duke of Sussex said that social cohesion had completely broken down while people online were “allowed to spread lies, abuse [and] harass”.

In an apparent reference to the recent UK riots, he added: “What happens online within a matter of minutes transfers to the streets. People are acting on information that isn’t true.”

The prince was speaking to an audience in Bogota at a summit on a “responsible digital future”, which was hosted in part by their Archewell Foundation, as part of a tour with his wife to Colombia. He told them that
