‘Emily In Paris’ Season 4, Part 1 Ending Explained—Camille’s Shocking Secret Revealed

Must read

Spoilers ahead for Emily in Paris Season 4, Part One.

The fourth season of Emily in Paris is now streaming. If you’ve already watched the first five episodes of the beloved Netflix series, dive into the ending of Emily in Paris Season 4, Part One, including what the final moments mean for the future of Emily, Gabriel, Camille, and the rest of your favorites.

Season four begins with Emily in the midst of a crisis after Gabriel and Camille’s chaotic wedding, where Camille confessed that Gabriel and Emily were still in love. To add to the drama, Gabriel revealed to Emily last season that Camille is pregnant, and he’s about to become a father.

Emily hasn’t spoken to Alfie since he walked out on her, and Gabriel hasn’t heard from Camille either. To make matters worse, Agence Grateau’s client, Ami, selected Emily and Alfie as the faces of its hot air balloon social media campaign. The boss of Ami expects them to attend a tennis event to showcase their love as part of the marketing strategy.

Emily confronts Alfie at the boxing gym to inform him about Ami’s campaign and discuss what happened at the wedding, but he says he still needs more time. Fortunately, Alfie does show up at the tennis match, saving the marketing campaign (and sharing one last kiss with Emily). But it’s there that he ends things with her, unable to move past her complicated romantic history with Gabriel.

By the end of Episode 1, Camille is still missing, and she’s not in Greece with her on-again-off-again girlfriend Sofia, as Emily had hoped. Emily tracks down Camille, and the latter apologizes for what went down at her wedding, admitting she used Emily as an excuse to call it off. Sofia also arrives in France to check on Camille, and they settle into Gabriel’s apartment as Gabriel and Emily try to navigate their feelings for one another.

Do Emily and Alfie Break Up?

In Episode 3, “Masquerade,” there seems to be hope for Emily and Alfie, as Emily hasn’t yet decided who she truly wants to be with. Alfie decides to give her another chance after bumping into Camille, who tells him that Emily and Gabriel could have been together after the wedding but chose not to. (They weren’t together because Gabriel saw Emily and Alfie kissing for Ami and mistakenly thought they had reconciled their relationship.)

Before the Masquerade ball, which the agency is hosting for Baccarat’s new fragrance, Alfie’s there and hopeful about their future. He apologizes to Emily for how he handled the wedding, and they dance together. Later in the night, Alfie opens up to someone he believes is Emily, saying, “I don’t want to be stuck with you; I want you. Letting you go was a huge mistake.” He kisses the woman, only to realize it’s Sabine not Emily—they are wearing the same outfit and Sabine’s face was covered by a mask.

Does Emily End Up With Gabriel?

In Episode 3, “Masquerade,” the American fashionista ultimately decides to be with the French chef instead of Alfie. Before the ball, Gabriel confesses that his feelings for Emily remain the same, and he sneaks away from the restaurant to attend the event. Flustered by the presence of both Gabriel and Alfie, Mindy convinces Emily to choose between them.

Initially, it’s unclear who Emily will pick, but when she spots Gabriel on the dance floor, she realizes he’s the one she wants to be with. They slip away together at the end of the night, unaware that a heartbroken Alfie—after mistakenly confessing his feelings to someone he thought was Emily—sees them leaving.

In true Bridgerton style, Gabriel and Emily ride off together in a carriage. When Emily says it all feels too good to be true, Gabriel tells her to forget about reality for one night and kisses her.

What Goes Down With Sylvie And Louis de Leon?

Throughout Part One, Sylvie is repeatedly contacted by a reporter seeking an interview about her former boss, JMVA CEO Louis de Leon, and his controversial relationships with women in the workplace. (Nicolas, the CEO’s son, is dating Emily’s best friend Mindy. When Mindy learned about her boyfriend’s father’s inappropriate behavior from JMVA employees, she told Emily, who then informed Sylvie.)

After some hesitation, Sylvie agrees to do the interview, and the article is published on the night of the Masquerade party. Unfortunately, this leads de Leon to withdraw his investment in Sylvie’s husband’s new nightclub. However, Sylvie seizes the opportunity to call in a favor from her wealthy mother, who steps in to help save Laurent’s grand opening from disaster.

What Happens In Emily In Paris Season 4, Episode 5?

The final episode of Emily in Paris Part One, Episode 5, “Trompe l’oeil,” opens with Emily and Mindy sampling dishes from the new pastry chef at L’Esprit de Gigi. (Luc’s girlfriend Marianne, a Michelin star inspector, advised Gabriel that a top-notch pastry chef is what he needs to earn a star.) When Emily visits Luc and Marianne’s table to see how they like the dessert, Marianne assures Emily that “it’s all up to the Michelin gods.” Meanwhile, Mindy’s friend Li arrives at the restaurant and tells Emily that she’s launching a new skincare company in Paris. She needs help from a French marketing firm (aka Agence Grateau).

Camille and her girlfriend Sofia are moving into the vacant apartment next door to Gabriel. While unpacking, Camille offers to give Gabriel his family’s engagement ring. He tells her to keep it because they’re still family now that they’re having a baby together soon. Sofia witnesses these sweet exchanges between Gabriel and Camille, which only adds to the growing tension between them. They disagree about what to prioritize ahead of the baby, like whether to turn the spare bedroom into a nursery for Camille or an art studio for Sofia.

At Agence Grateau, Julien returns to the firm after Sylvie rehired him. Louis de Leon wanted Julien to spill dirt on Sylvie following the news article, but Julien refused and quit JMVA. Sylvie asks Luc if Marianne can secure a dinner reservation at an exclusive restaurant for Laurent’s birthday. Marianne agrees but encourages Luc that this is the perfect opportunity for him to ask Sylvie for a raise.

Is Marianne Actually A Michelin Star Inspector?

When Sylvie and Laurent arrive for their dinner reservation, they are surprised to find Luc and Marianne there as well. At the end of the evening, Luc decides to ask Sylvie for a raise. Sylvie is not pleased, especially given that he asked during her husband’s birthday dinner.

Another Michelin inspector overhears Marianne asking the restaurant to cover their bill and exposes her as a fraud. “She used to be [an inspector],” he reveals in front of the entire restaurant, including Luc, “but she was fired last year for insider dining.” Marianne tries to pass the bill to Luc, who admits he can’t afford it. Sylvie steps in to cover the bill, but informs Luc that the discussion about his raise will have to wait.

Why Do Camille and Sofia Break Up?

In Episode 5, Sofia ends her relationship with Camille and tells her she’s going home. She explains that she wasn’t planning to stay in Paris and invites Camille to join her in Athens. “Paris isn’t the only place to raise a child,” Sofia says. She also points out the obvious: Camille’s inability to live more than two blocks away from Gabriel is preventing their relationship from moving forward.

Meanwhile, Gabriel takes Emily to a secret spot, a restaurant where he likes to unwind with other chefs. Afterward, the lovebirds go on a romantic stroll around Paris. Gabriel tells Emily that he loves her, and she says the words back to him. Outside their building, a heartbroken Camille watches them, still visibly upset about Sofia and perhaps feeling jealous of Emily.

What Is Camille’s Big Secret?

Camille decides to visit a gynecologist to check on her pregnancy, but the doctor informs her that she is not pregnant. It turns out she was never pregnant in the first place; her pregnancy test was an extremely rare false positive, and the stress she was under caused her to miss her period.

Camille shares this news with her friend but chooses not to tell anyone else, including Gabriel or Emily. She explains that she hasn’t told Gabriel yet because he was excited about the pregnancy. Also, the baby was one of the few things keeping them together after their breakup.

How Does Emily In Paris Season 4, Part One End?

At the sample sale for Li’s skincare product, Julien reveals to Emily and Sylvie that he discovered something surprising about Mindy’s friend. Li appeared on Fox’s Liar last year, the French version of Shark Tank, and it turns out that the product was originally intended as a lubricant, not a face cream (the team decides to go for it anyway). Meanwhile, Luc finally tells Emily the heart-breaking news that Marianne is no longer a Michelin inspector—which likely means Gabriel won’t receive a star.

Part One concludes at Gabriel’s restaurant. Emily tells Gabriel the news about Marianne and that he’s likely not getting a star. Gabriel is relieved that he is not under such intense pressure anymore and fires his difficult new pastry chef.

Camille arrives at the restaurant and learns about the star situation (or lack thereof). As everyone celebrates, Camille is offered a drink to join the festivities, an opportunity to tell Gabriel she’s not pregnant. However, she chooses not to reveal the truth and continues to pretend she is with Gabriel’s child.

What Will Happen In Emily In Paris Season 4, Part 2?

Netflix has not yet released a teaser for Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 2, but the second half is expected to address burning questions, like whether Camille will finally confess to Gabriel that she’s not pregnant or continue to use the false pregnancy to stay close to him.

Alfie appears to be out of the picture—at least for now. Viewers haven’t seen much of him since Episode 3’s Masquerade ball. In Part 2, Emily and Gabriel’s relationship will likely grow more serious, but how Camille will factor into their dynamic (now that Sofia has officially left for Greece) is still unknown.

There’s also the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest that Mindy and her band were selected for. Sparks are still flying between Mindy and Benoît, especially during their performance at Laurent’s nightclub. Could their underlying feelings finally come to the surface in Part Two?

Emily is also set to leave Paris for Rome at some point in Part Two, although, by the end of Part One, it’s still unclear why or how she’ll be embarking on a Roman Holiday. In the next few weeks, Netflix will likely release a trailer for the final five episodes, so viewers won’t have to wait too long for a sneak peek.

Mark your calendars! The second part of Emily in Paris Season 4 will premiere on September 12, 2024, at 3:00 a.m. ET / midnight PT.
