UK economy grows in second quarter with GDP expanding by 0.6%

The UK economy grew by 0.6 per cent in the second quarter of the year, making Britain the fastest growing member of the G7 this year in a boost for the government.

Official figures from the Office for National Statistics showed economic growth slowed slightly from the 0.7 per cent expansion recorded at the start of the year, with the 0.6 per cent figure in line with economists expectations. The economy has now grown by 1.3 per cent in the first half of the year, outpacing the US and the fastest in the G7 group of advanced economies.
