Manchester United’s summer plans will soon be taking shape as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to put his stamp on the current squad.

Tuchel stance

Thomas Tuchel reportedly has “concerns” he will not be offered the Manchester United manager’s job this summer.

The Bayern Munich boss is now looking increasingly likely to remain put at his current club, despite the German giants announcing in February he would be leaving at the end of the season.

A fresh update on the situation from ESPN has claimed the German coach “fears” he won’t be offered a role at United even if Erik ten Hag departs amid concerns Dan Ashworth is seeking a head coach capable of being utilised in a wider structure as opposed to an authoritative central figure.

The report adds Tuchel “remains open to holding formal talks” should negotiations with Bayern break down.

MEN says: It would be a shame for United to miss out on a manager of Tuchel’s calibre this summer, particularly as the ex-Chelsea boss appeared destined to move on. Ten Hag has not delivered in his second season in charge, regardless of injury issues he has faced, and a change looks to be a likely way forward for the club in the long run. Throwing everything at Tuchel should now be a priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Donny van de Beek twist

After it became clear Eintracht Frankfurt are not planning to make Donny van de Beek’s loan move permanent, a twist has emerged regarding the future of the Dutch midfielder.

Inter Milan are said to be interested in a deal for the former Ajax star, a report from Italy has suggested, though are fearful intermediaries involved have the idea is to use Van de Beek as a “pawn” in a deal to bring Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries to Old Trafford.

Dumfries, 28, is up for sale this summer for a fee in the region of €20m (£17m) in the hope of finding a “quality replacement” for the Italian club. It is stated exchanging Van de Beek and Dumfries “doesn’t suit Inter from any point of view”, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka the only player that would be considered for such a deal.

MEN says: With Van de Beek a near certainty to move on in the coming weeks, why not try to use him as part of a swap deal? Dumfries has been a consistent performer in an Inter team that has won Serie A, back-to-back Coppa Italia titles and reached a Champions League final. If Inter are unwilling to accept Van de Beek in exchange for the services of the Dutchman, a general bid would surely still be worthwhile.
