Billie Eilish Dominates With Her Third Career No. 1 Smash

Must read

Billie Eilish has spent much of 2024 promoting her new album Hit Me Hard and Soft. The full-length was a quick commercial success the moment it was released, and it’s continued to perform well in the weeks since. Several tracks from the project have also become global wins, keeping her name on charts all around the world.

As Eilish continues to push Hit Me Hard and Soft and the tunes featured on it, she’s also managed another smash. The singer scores a quick No. 1 in one of the largest music markets in the world with a new collaboration, one which the public immediately gravitated toward.

Charli XCX’s “Guess” debuts at No. 1 in the U.K this week. The track was recently re-released as a duet with Eilish, and it’s her star power that helped turn the cut an instant champion.

“Guess” marks Eilish’s third ruler on the U.K. songs chart. She first hit No. 1 in the country back in 2020 with “No Time To Die,” her James Bond theme song. That cut managed just one turn atop the tally before sliding backward. She then returned to the summit with “What Was I Made For?,” which as written and recorded for the movie Barbie.

Charli, meanwhile, accomplishes a similar showing. “Guess” brings the English singer-songwriter to the summit for just the second time in her career. She led the charge with her first appearance on the ranking more than a decade ago.

Charli landed her inaugural hit in the U.K. in 2013 alongside electronic dance duo Icona Pop. Their joint single “I Love It” brought both to the throne, and it ended 2013 as one of the biggest singles of the year in that country.

“Guess” was originally released as a solo cut, and not a single. It was featured on the deluxe edition of Charli’s new album Brat, which was released in June. Since dropping the project, the Grammy-nominated star has continued to add to the set, including another high-profile collaboration with Lorde.

Update: An earlier version of this article stated that “Guess” marked Eilish’s second No. 1 in the U.K. It is actually her third.
