Aimee Lou Wood has revealed that the producers of White Lotus 3 didn’t like her American accent and asked her to stick with her native Manchester twang instead. 

The Sex Education actress, 29, revealed that she did several auditions in her usual voice and in an American accent but in the end, the producers opted for her Manchester tone.

The star had her breakout role in the hit Netflix coming of age drama and has since gone on to star in films including The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Seize Them! and Living.

But the actress is now taking on a huge role in season three of the hit HBO series The White Lotus.

However, despite the success of filming, Aimee revealed that she got off to a rocky start.

In an interview with Radio Times, the star also revealed that while she was at drama school she had been advised to tone down her accent but has since found that people love it

She explained: ‘My character was meant to be American and then I did a self-tape, one in an American accent and one in my own. They were like, “Yeah, we want your own voice,” so my character is going to be from Manchester!’

She told the magazine:  ‘They [RADA] said Received Pronunciation was going to be the main accent we needed, so I should know when to dial my accent down, but that’s not been the case at all – if anything, people ask me to amp it up!’

The Bafta-winning actress has been keeping fans up to date on her White Lotus filming journey and shared two snaps to her Instagram Stories on Sunday to share that filming had officially wrapped.

In one photo the tsar posted a blurry close-up with the caption: ‘Last day white’ followed by a lotus flower emoji.

In another picture, she shared a sweet snap of herself with Patrick Schwarzenegger, holding a bunch of flowers with one arm draped over the actor,

She described the role as a coming-home and revealed she enjoyed filming in Manchester, surrounded by people with similar accents rather than feeling the need to hide it. 

The actress has had a busy few months and alongside her television and film work, she has also been recognised for her role in Cabaret which she said was a very trying role to take on. 

During the interview with Radio Times, she said: ‘I felt like I was naked on stage. Afterwards, people would say I was great, and I was thinking, “I wasn’t pretending, I was actually just screaming and crying and having a breakdown.”

But the work was worth it and the actress was recognised with another award, this time for ‘Best Takeover’ at the What’s On Awards. 

The actress, who hails from Stockport has made an impact in Hollywood after fans went wild for a teaser trailer for the next season of White Lotus.

The first look at season three introduces a star-studded cast, including Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Among them was a first look at the critically acclaimed series, which follows a new set of vacationers as they embark on a luxurious Thai getaway.

The new season, which is set to be released in 2025, starts off with a cinematic shot of a pool at a new

White Lotus resort, before showing the five new cast members walking together.

‘What happens in Thailand, stays in Thailand,’ a female voice narrates.

Three vacationers are then seen relaxing on pool loungers, before the clip cuts to a scene of two boxers fighting it out.

There is also a brief look at Rothwell, as she arrives at the resort wearing a floral dress.

Rothwell played Belinda Lindsey in the first season of The White Lotus. Her character was the spa manager at the Hawaiian resort.

Following the announcement, excited fans took to Twitter, with one writing, ‘Omg I can’t wait!!!!’

‘I’m completely hooked on The White Lotus series! It’s like a thrilling escape with the perfect blend of drama, humor, and intrigue. So excited for #TheWhiteLotusS3,’ another added.

‘I’m ready holy s**t,’ someone else chimed in, while yet another person wrote, ‘Can’t wait.’
