WWE SmackDown Winners And Grades

Cody Rhodes Faces Off With Solo Sikoa

Fans immediately chanted “we want Roman” before Solo had a chance to even open his mouth. After he told them to acknowledge him, fans chanted “Solo sucks!”

Fans were very much behind Cody Rhodes, especially when he fired up and reminded Solo that he was the Undisputed WWE champion.

As Solo was battling “what” chants (brilliantly, by the way), The Bloodline invaded the ring from around the arena. Solo then challenged Cody to a Bloodline Rules match.

Fans chanted “Roman Reigns” after Cody accepted the Bloodline Rules match. The entire state of Ohio is going to be pissed if Roman doesn’t show up on Sunday, because this segment seemed designed to hint that Reigns is coming back.

Opening Segment Grade: B

Andrade Def. Carmelo Hayes

With SummerSlam talent not competing on the night before SummerSlam, Andrade and Carmelo Hayes had a lot of time (three commercial breaks) and these boys cooked.

Hayes and Andrade were incredible for about 15 minutes that felt like five. This was a fast-paced match that the crowd was into from the start, and Andrade finally won with a rollup. Incredible. These two both need a push coming out of SummerSlam, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a best of seven series.

Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes Grade: A

Santos Escobar Def. Apollo Crews

Santos Escobar got into a backstage dispute (storyline, not real) with his fellow Legado Del Fantasma members. If they’re teasing a split, they need to get fans to care about this group first.

Apollo Crews vs. Santos Escobar was essentially a remix of the match before, but they had a tough time following Andrade and Carmelo.

Baron Corbin helped while on the outside with a big right hand to Angel.

Angel apprehended Corbin from under the ring, leading to a Phantom Driver from Angel.

Santos Escobar vs. Apollo Crews Grade: B-

Logan Paul’s Cleveland Homecoming

Logan Paul, one of the best heels in the business, had his Cleveland homecoming and was booed so much you’d think he was a Bengal.

Logan Paul was greeted by dignitaries as he cut a scathing promo on LA Knight, calling out the megastar for “wanting to take his belt off of him.”

Paul noted he’s only defended the WWE United States Title two times in 273 days. Those are Roman Reigns numbers.

Paul revealed his logo, however unfortunately it was defaced with “YEAH” written on his face. This brought out LA Knight. Knight called out Paul from being from Westlake, not Cleveland.

In a one-camera shot, Knight walked backstage and stole Logan Paul’s Prime Hydration Truck. The segment featured a big pop for Pretty Deadly, who used their limited TV time to pitch their musical to LA Knight.

Logan Paul-LA Knight Segment Grade: B

Jade Cargill And Bianca Belair Def. Unholy Union By DQ

Fans booed the champions vociferously and went crazy for Jade and Bianca. Prior to the commercial break, Bianca and Jade performed a stereo Gorilla Press Slam and flexed for the cameras.

This was another heated match in front of a great crowd. As Bianca was getting ready to go for the KOD, Blair Davenport interrupted, forcing a disqualification. I guess they couldn’t have two title changes on one free TV show?

Backstage, Nia Jax presented Tiffany Stratton with her newly customized pink briefcase. This brought out Chelsea Green to confront Tiffany. If WWE is looking to turn Tiffany babyface anytime soon, it’s a huge mistake.

Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair vs. Unholy Union Grade: B

The Bloodline Def. DIY

Jacob Fatu’s entrance is a main-event entrance, fully equipped with coordinated flames.

DIY cut a spirited promo while walking to the ring in a single-camera shot. It was an admirable promo, but it also felt like two pigs going into slaughter.

Even after the long entrances and DIY promo, they still had 13 minutes of ring time.

Johnny Gargano hit a Poisonrana on Jacob Fatu, but as has been the case for weeks now, it did not affect Fatu. Apparently, Johnny Gargano did not study his film close enough, and it cost him as Fatu hit a superkick followed two more finishers for the win.

Solo Sikoa celebrated with both belts as SmackDown went off the air.

Bloodline Vs. DIY Grade: A-
