Care worker jailed for 13 years for attempted murder of BA steward

Must read

A care home worker who tried to murder a British Airways steward after he reported him for “bad behaviour and drunkenness” has been jailed for 13 years.

Peter Lindley, 61, broke into Marvie Orbiso’s room and stabbed him up to nine times with a kitchen knife on Jan 31.

The pair lived at shared accommodation provided by Charing Cross Hospital at Cliff House in Hammersmith.

But Lindley faced being kicked out of his flat after Mr Orbiso reported him for drunkenness.

Mr Orbiso, originally from the Philippines, worked as a cabin crew member for British Airways.

Prosecutor Bill McGivern told Southwark Crown Court: “This was a man in his bed, minding his own business, when a roommate came in and carried out what the Crown would submit is a vicious and sustained attack – repeatedly stabbing him eight or nine times.

“When the knife had dropped, he banged his head against the wall when he no longer had the weapon in his hands.”

James Davis, defending, said Lindley felt a “false accusation” had been made against him by Mr Orbiso.

“When such a person is disappointed, the disillusionment is particularly bitter – which could be why out of nowhere, after a period of 40 years, something so heinous is done by him.

“He says candidly that (Mr Orbiso) didn’t deserve what he did and is truly grateful he did not die.”

‘A simmering grudge’

Judge Justin Cole said Lindley carried out an “extremely vicious and determined attack which was the result of a simmering grudge”.

He continued: “Bad blood had developed between you and Mr Orbiso when you discovered that he had reported bad behaviour and drunkenness by you to the accommodation manager.

“On the morning of 31 January 2024, Mr Orbiso was sleeping in his bed at around 10am – his partner had gone to the bathroom.

“Mr Orbiso heard the door to his room open and he saw you standing in front of him holding the knife and saying ‘you’re going to die, I’m going to stab you in the neck and you’re going to die’.

“He jumped out of bed and he tried to hug you to prevent you from stabbing him. You stabbed him in the back several times, saying, ‘you’ll be dead today’.

“No-one came by this point and he tried to grab the knife out of your hand – whilst putting you in a hug you fell to the floor.

“Instead of stopping, you began to choke Mr Orbiso, saying ‘I’m going to choke you to death’.”

Lindley, of Claybrook Road, Hammersmith, admitted attempted murder.

He was jailed for 13 years with five years extended licence.
