Surprise new UK Wi-Fi upgrade may spell the end of your broken broadband speeds

Must read

Earlier this year Express.co.uk gave our readers a first look at a new Wi-Fi device that promises to bring improved internet access to UK homes. Now we know a little bit more about this upcoming upgrade – that’s being launched by EE – and it could help more people get far more reliable broadband. Although EE is clearly famed for its UK mobile network, the BT-owned firm is also offering much more than just data and calls for your phone with broadband and TV now a big part of its future plans.

And what’s coming soon from the company could offer consumers a monumental boost with EE’s new Wi-Fi 7 router able to cope with much faster speeds and more devices connected to it at once.

It’s expected that EE will call its new device the “Smart Hub Pro” with this compact internet hub launching alongside a “Smart WiFi Pro” box that will then extend the signal around homes.

With these two gadgets working in tandem it’s hoped users will get the same experience no matter which room they are in.

EE already offers customers download speeds in excess of 1Gbps but its latest Smart Hub Pro product should future-proof connections and make sure homes keep pace with faster and faster downloads.

New photos published here by Express.co.uk also show how these products will look with both getting a futuristic design that should help them blend in better when placed in living rooms.

There’s currently no word on an exact release date or price for the Smart Hub Pro but it looks almost certain that customers will be able to sign up before the end of the year. This does appear to be a premium offering from EE so it’s unlikely to be a cheap option.

Now, you might be wondering why EE is getting this boost and not BT. Well, it was announced late last year that EE is now the firm’s flagship brand for broadband. Although this service is powered by BT, the EE name will be placed more in the limelight moving forward.

What is Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi 7 allows customers to benefit from multi-gigabit Wi-Fi throughout the home with faster speed, less interference, more capacity and better performance to support the many high-bandwidth activities of the future.

So, if your kids are downloading or steaming huge PS5 games, you will still be able to watch Netflix in 4K, make Zoom calls and listen to music online without any stuttering. It’s hoped Wi-Fi 7 will offer speeds around 4 times faster than current Wi-Fi 6 technology can cope with whilst also being more stable.

Will Wi-Fi 7 work on all of my devices?

Wi-Fi 7 is a new technology and not all laptops, phones and tablets are compatible just yet. This is likely to change in the future and expect more devices to get Wi-Fi 7 built in over the coming months.
