Japanese brand Audio-Technica has announced a new and affordable turntable for anyone who fancies dipping their toe into the water of vinyl records. The AT-LP70xBT is an ideal gateway to record collecting and offers a belt-driven mechanism with the convenience of Bluetooth for streaming music wirelessly.
Designed as an easy-to-use device for playing records, the AT-LP70xBT can switch speeds at the touch of a button for playing LPs at 33-1/3 and 45 RPM discs. A simple wireless connection can stream music to powered speakers or headphones. There is support for Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive audio codec for higher-quality playback without cables.
As well as catering for wireless setups, the AT-LP70xBT also works for wired systems and includes a built-in and switchable phono preamp. At the heart of the AT-LP70xBT is Audio-Technica’s AT-VM95C phono cartridge. It’s mounted directly on a J-shaped tonearm which means it’s not upgradable. However, the cartridge has a 0.6 mil conical stylus which can be upgraded with any other styli (elliptical, micro linear, or Shibata) from Audio-Technica’s VM95 Series.
Although the AT-LP70xBT is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts starting on their journey to vinyl enlightenment, Audio-Technica claims the turntable will also appeal to more seasoned audiophiles. The three-piece anti-resonance chassis provides a solid foundation that dampens unwanted noise.
