ITV Love Island caught in ‘fix’ row as fans left fuming over voting ‘technical issues’

Must read

Love Island fans were left annoyed and confused last night as the show’s app – where the public goes to vote for their favourite couple – went down, leaving them unable to cast their decision.

Others weren’t able to access the app from their country, leaving some to wonder whether the app was bugged for a reason and left producers to fix the result.

Ngulube and Oyinsan were in the final alongside couples Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies, Matilda Draper and Sean Stone and Jessica Spencer and Ayo Odukoya.

Spencer and Odykoya finished in fourth place while Draper and Stone were awarded third position in the reality show competition.

Samuel and Davies were the runners-up in the final despite being the public’s and bookmakers’ favourites to win throughout the series.

Mental health nurse Ngulube, 24, broke down in tears and whilst model Oyinsan, 29, told host Maya Jama: “Thank you everyone, we love you!

“I told her when I met her, she surprised me, everything I expected her to be, she was and more. So I didn’t need to make other connections.”

Whilst many were left thrilled with the result, some complained that due to the app not working they weren’t able to have their say, as one X user revealed: “@Loveisland unable to vote through app???”

“Who knows how to vote on the app if it’s not available in your country? I see loads of people wanting to vote for #jomii but they can’t,” someone else stated before another added: “So sorry guys… I tried voting but couldn’t coz Love Island app isn’t in my region”.

“@ITVXhelp app is not working! Cannot watch Love Island final, always a problem with this app,” another moaned whilst a fifth said: “Funny how the app stops working when it comes down to the final two.”

A sixth fan agreed: “I thought this… Was able to vote earlier but it’s just stopped working and now I can’t vote at all… maybe they wanted Mimii and Josh to win?” (sic)

Long-term fans of the show who have invested the last eight weeks of their lives in the series also felt that Davies and Samuel were robbed of the win.

This isn’t the first time that the ITV reality series has been accused of fixing the vote after they brought in reality king Joey Essex on the second night – seeing contestant Sam Taylor dumped.

Essex was asked to steal one girl – Samantha Kenny – after just 24 hours in the villa, but fans thought it was a tactical move from show producers who have been bringing back former contestants recently.

Whilst the series has come to an end for another year, fans already have suggestions for what they want to see scrapped and returned for next year’s series.

Many theorised that ITV producers had “blown the budget” when bringing in Essex after the couple’s final dates were scrapped, as well as challenges such as the baby challenge and the absence of challenges in general.
