Bloomberg: Apple Intelligence is running late, won’t arrive with new iPhones

Apple Intelligence’s arrival might be delayed, reports Bloomberg News. According to people familiar with the matter, the AI features will miss the launch of the new iPhones in September and will be distributed in October via a software update.

Apple has yet to push the AI to software developers, but expectations are that it will arrive this week via iOS 18.1 beta and iPadOS 18.1 beta. The service, initially introduced at WWDC back in June, will be available on all new devices powered by the A17 and M series chips.

Some old devices, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max smartphones, all iPad Pro tablets launched after April 2021 and all iPad Air tablets launched after March 2022 will also get the AI goodies.

Last month, Apple warned the general public that its AI features might be delayed because of EU tech rules. Cupertino stated that Phone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen and Apple Intelligence will not be rolled out to EU users in 2024 because of regulatory uncertainties due to EU’s DMA (Digital Markets Act).

The EU regulators want Apple to ensure rival products and services can also function with iDevices, while the US company said it is concerned that “interoperability requirements could compromise the integrity” of its products and might risk user privacy and data security.
