Lloyds to convert old buildings into social housing

Lloyds Banking Group is to convert a number of its old buildings into affordable homes, starting with a soon-to-be decommissioned data centre in West Yorkshire.

The UK’s largest mortgage lender has been reviewing its property portfolio since the pandemic lockdowns and has decided that at least a handful of them are suitable for repurposing into much-needed housing.

The first — and so far only — confirmed site is a building in Pudsey, near Leeds, which is in the process of closing down, with staff moving to nearby offices. Lloyds will look to secure planning permission for the conversion before selling the building on to a developer.
