The Reef and Beef restaurant in St Ives, Cornwall, and the Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay both posted CCTV screenshots of the suspects.

Reef boss said they arrived at 7pm on Friday and left without settling the £220 bill.

She said the women left with the children before one of the men ducked out of an emergency exit.

Marina added: “The other man stayed at the table, pretending to be on the phone. We thought he was coming to pay but instead he ran away.”

They hit the Lewinnick Lodge two days earlier.

The hotel posted: “Dining as a family of seven with children. Asked for the bill then walked off without paying it.”

DINE-AND-DASH LAW EXPLAINED

If a customer or group ‘dine-and-dash’, they could be charged under section 3 of the 1978 Theft Act.

This deals with people who eat out and leave without paying.

It is considered theft if there is a failure to pay when it is known that payment is required for goods or services.

The offence can carry a prison sentence of up to two years.
