Travel expert’s simple hotel booking hack that could save you money on holiday

Must read

When you’re looking for a place to stay on holiday, it really doesn’t get much better than a hotel. Packed with amenities, friendly staff and no hidden fees, they are ideal if you want a relaxing trip without the fuss.

But like most things these days, the cost of a hotel stay can be expensive. Combined with all the other parts of a holiday, like flights, food and things to do, and the price of your holiday can easily shoot up.

However, by checking into your accommodation on one specific day of the week, you could end up saving money and have more cash to spend while you’re actually there and able to enjoy it.

Conor O’Neill, travel expert at money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, has lifted the lid on some common holiday-related rip-offs that are easily avoided if you know what to do instead. He’s offered some valuable advice which has helped him to save money in the past, and he’s keen to help others to do the same.

And one of the most simple – and effective – things you can do to save some cash is book your holiday to begin on a Sunday – as this is ‘often the cheapest’ night of the week.

Drawing on his own experiences, he said: “I booked a double room at Hotel Abitart in Rome for just £17 on a Sunday, compared to higher rates on other days. If your travel schedule is flexible, consider including a Sunday night in your stay to reduce costs.

“This is because most holiday trips leave on a Sunday, and start on either a Saturday or Monday. Sunday nights have the lowest occupancy rates, so hotels discount to try and fill it up.”
