Morgan reveals Super 3 Origins special editions

Must read

Part of the joy of a car like the Morgan Super 3 is the customisation on offer. Choosing exactly the paint colour you want, for every element of the car, opting for decals, adding luggage and personalising upholstery to make just the Morgan you want, will be a hugely rewarding experience. Anything is possible with a Super 3 and everything is seemingly encouraged; after all, have you seen one yet that doesn’t look absolutely brilliant?

To really prove the point, and celebrate all the design inspirations that went into the new three-wheeled Morgan, a special series called the Super 3 Origins has been launched. It isn’t just a single spec limited edition, either – oh no. There will be nine different configurations to choose from, each with their own paint, interior, features and accessories.

There will be just nine examples of each of the nine themes, so 81 examples in total. ‘Super 3 Origins displays an eclectic and versatile mix of commissions… Inspirations range from the emergence of the jet age, the space race, the pop art movement, America boulevard cruisers, belly tank racers, ’80s tech and science fiction’, reads the press release. It’ll be hard to know which to choose.

The nine Origins cars are Bluebird, Boulevard Cruiser, Pickersleigh Speedshop, Space Race, Warp Speed, Scramble the Jets, Charlie Mike, Fast Forward and Whoosh Bang Pop. As you can see, they’re all pretty fantastic, from the aviation theme of Scramble the Jets to the overlander-style Charlie Mike. It’s going to be a tough buying decision, that’s for sure. Specific aspects highlighted by Morgan include paint matched exactly to Donald Campbell’s land speed record Bluebird, the hand-painted Pickersleigh Speedshop livery, polished aluminium contrasted with yellow on the Warp Speed, a red ‘bomb release’ start switch for Scramble the Jets, white wheels for Fast Forward, and a Morgan comic strip for Whoosh Bang Pop. All pretty great in their own way, even with just renders to see.

Morgan’s Chief Design Officer Jonathan Wells said of the Origins cars: “The Super 3’s aesthetic is derived from its mechanical function and the very broad outlook adopted by the creative team at Morgan. We drew inspiration from the other industries, artistic and industrial movements, and sampled the ‘best bits’ from multiple decades of design.”

All nine new Super 3s are available to order now, each sold with a bespoke artwork. The price is the same for all – from £47,995 – and a Campbell-inspired Bluebird commission will be on Morgan’s stand for this weekend’s Festival of Speed. One more car to check off the must-see list!
