Euro 2024 updates with Netherlands given advantage as England stars ‘handed ban’

There are four players tied on three goals apiece at Euro 2024, but only Cody Gakpo is still in the tournament.

That means, unless another player bags two or more, just one more goal from the Liverpool striker would bring him the Golden Boot.

The others on three are Georges Mikautadze of Georgia, Jamal Musiala of Germany and Ivan Schranz of Slovakia.

Of the 11 players with two goals, five are still in the tournament. That group includes Gakpo’s international team-mate Donyell Malen, as well as two players apiece for Spain and England.

Former Dutch international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is part of England’s coaching staff, and Phil Foden revealed the ex-Chelsea star had a part to play in the penalty shoot-out win which took England this far.

“Jimmy’s been working hard with us to do penalties after training, in case it ever goes to a penalty shootout. So yeah, I feel like we were ready for the occasion,” Foden told Football Daily

“I was a bit surprised myself to be honest, to see the five takers, how confident they were…You’ve got the world on your shoulders if you like, but they were just full of confidence and slotted them away, so I’m delighted.”
