Joe Burrow opens up on being ‘roasted’ over bold fashion show look

Must read

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow admits he was ‘roasted’ from all angles over the controversial outfit he wore to a fashion show in Paris last month.

Burrow drew plenty of attention after walking down the catwalk at the Vogue World Paris event in a backless black suit, with conservative sports commentator Jason Whitlock slamming him over the unusual look.

‘Have you all seen this? Joe Burrow walking a runway in Paris, a backless suit,’ Whitlock said on his ‘Fearless’ podcast. ‘They’ve dressed this man up like a woman. They’ve dressed this man up like a woman.’

He went on to add that the Bengals star had been selected to feature in the show in order to ‘push the sexual identity, the sexuality envelope.’

A few weeks on from that opinion-dividing appearance in Paris, Burrow has opened up on the brutal reaction to his bold look and being ‘roasted’ in a wide range of group chats.

When asked if he knew he would be wearing a backless suit, he said on Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast: ‘I showed up and they gave it to me. And I said “sure, why not?”‘

‘I’ve been roasted in just about every group chat I could possibly be roasted in,’ Burrow added. ‘[But] I did look cool and I was fully prepared for all of the criticism and roasting. I knew it was coming my way.’

Burrow endured a frustrating end to the 2023 NFL season after a wrist injury brought his campaign to an end in November.

The Bengals subsequently missed out on a place in the postseason without their starting quarterback fit and firing.

When asked about people forgetting how good he is in his time out of the sport, Burrow said: ‘That’s what happens when you get hurt, though. You don’t play football, people forget about you.

‘If you’re not out there and people aren’t watching you, then there’s nothing to talk about. I’m going to give people something to talk about this year. I’m excited about it.’

Burrow has spent four seasons in Cincinnati after being selected with the No 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

His time with the Bengals has frequently been disrupted by injuries, with his rookie season also ending early when he tore his ACL and MCL in a Week 11 game against Washington.

Despite his injury problems, Burrow has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throughout his four seasons in Cincinnati.
