The Prime Minister can appoint MPs to sit his cabinet, which meets every week and is where key decisions are made, but also ministers. They are, the Government website says, responsible for the actions, successes and failures of their departments.

The appointments are all approved by the King. Sir Keir Starmer began appointing his cabinet in the hours after he was appointed Prime Minister.
