Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham has praised Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo following victory over Switzerland at Euro 2024.
Mainoo has needed to be patient for his opportunity at the European Championships but after impressing in the second half of the draw against Slovenia, the United midfielder has started both knockout victories in the tournament. His inclusion in the England squad for the Euros was a testament to how well the 19-year-old did last season.
The academy graduate missed the first part of the campaign due to a freak injury picked up during the pre-season tour of the United States. But once introduced into the team in November, Mainoo has not looked back.

Supporters of other clubs have questioned why a player as young as Mainoo has been given a chance to impress at this tournament but he has been proving on the pitch why he is an asset to Gareth Southgate’s squad. One person who is also clearly impressed is Mainoo’s midfield teammate Bellingham.
Taking to Instagram at full-time, Mainoo posted a picture of himself and Cole Palmer celebrating victory with the caption: “Together and ready for what’s next. Onto the semis.”
Quick to reply was Bellingham, who posted in the comments: “Young general.” It is hard to argue with the assessment of Mainoo by the Los Blancos star particularly considering how tirelessly he works in both boxes.
Heading into the new campaign at Old Trafford, it would now seem criminal if Mainoo is not one of the first names on the teamsheet which should be highly encouraging for not only Erik ten Hag but also the supporters.
