Liverpool are waiting to complete their first signing of the summer but are being still linked with several possible new additions to their squad.
The summer transfer window has been open for a few weeks and yet the first new signing is yet to be made by the Reds. Arne Slot will be assessing his squad throughout pre-season training which got underway on Friday.
Even though Liverpool are yet to make any new signings, it has not stopped the rumour mill swirling about potential new additions. One such player who seemed close to a move to Anfield until recently was Anthony Gordon.
The Newcastle forward was credited as a target with the Reds, although a return to Merseyside did not happen last weekend despite the intense reports. After suggestions of Jarell Quansah heading to St James’ Park as part of the deal led to the move falling through, Gordon remains part of the Newcastle squad for the time being.

Once England’s participation at Euro 2024 is completed, rumours around Gordon’s future are likely to ramp up once again. Whether Liverpool will be mentioned in the reports again remains to be seen, though.
Gordon is not the only forward to be linked with a move to Liverpool this summer. Federico Chiesa has been credited in some reports as a target for the Reds and looks set to join a new club in the near future.
Reports have suggested that Juventus could be willing to sell Chiesa this summer in order to avoid losing the player on a free transfer next year. There have been suggestions of a price tag of £21 million (€25 million), which could get Liverpool’s attention if they end up looking to sign a new right winger to be Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor.
In defence, only one player’s name has been linked with Liverpool, in recent weeks and that is Leny Yoro. The Lille centre-back is regarded as one of the most talented young prospects in Europe, and it’s known that the Reds have an interest in his signature.
However, there has always been an acceptance from the Anfield hierarchy that Real Madrid is Yoro’s most likely destination. If that were to change, though, and a move to the Santiago Bernabeu falls though, then Liverpool would be wise to position themselves in such a way they can swoop in a agree a deal as quickly as possible.
After signing four midfielders last summer, there is not as much noise around further investment this time around. But there has been some speculation of a new addition being added to Slot’s squad in the middle of the park.
Teun Koopmeiners has been credited as a potential target for Liverpool for several months, but the rumours have quietened down recently. This has mainly been down to the expectation that the Netherlands international will leave Atalanta to join Juventus, rather than move to Anfield.
Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool may still be in the running, with a £55 million price tag being mentioned on the rumour mill. If the Reds can beat Juventus to the signing of Koopmeiners, as well as bring in the other aforementioned players, it would certainly be a dream window for Slot ahead of his first season as Liverpool’s new head coach.
