Thanks to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool is set for a cash injection from UEFA this summer. As is customary with every major international tournament, UEFA and FIFA offer clubs worldwide a compensation package for their players’ national team representation.

Under the Club Benefits Programme, UEFA reimburses clubs based on the duration their players spend with their national team. Ahead of the European championships, it was announced that the fund allocated to domestic clubs has increased from €130m ($141m/£110m) for Euro 2020 to €140m ($151m/£119m) for Euro 2024.

The precise breakdown for each club will be revealed post-tournament but, based on past figures, Liverpool, classified as ‘Category 1’, will receive the highest amount which for Euro 2020 was €8,700 ($9,408/£7,362) per player, per day they were on international duty, reports the Liverpool ECHO.

Payments kick off from 10 days prior to a team’s first match at the finals and continue until a day after they are eliminated (or lift the trophy). As such, Liverpool has already pocketed around €548,100 ($592,688/£463,755) for the participation of Robertson, Szoboszlai and Jaros, who have all already been sent home.

The total sum for the remaining players at the tournament is not yet confirmed. However, with England and the Netherlands poised to advance to the semi-finals this weekend and either France or Portugal guaranteed to progress, the Reds are set to earn a substantial fee.
