70,000 evacuated as Los Angeles wildfires rage out of control

Wildfires have struck fear into residents of America’s second biggest city.

Around 70,000 people have now been ordered to evacuate – among them, the ultra-rich and ultra-poor.

Three major wildfires are currently blazing out of control across the Los Angeles area. A fourth has been controlled.

The Eaton fire, near Pasadena, has killed two people and burned more than 2,000 acres.

Another is in Hurst, a rural community in the San Fernando Valley.

But the largest is the Palisades blaze. It has already consumed more than 5,000 acres in the affluent Pacific Palisades neighbourhood and is now threatening parts of Santa Monica.

And all three fires are “zero percent contained” according to fire officials.
