High street fashion retailer H&M has just launched its summer collection for 2024 – and it’s jam-packed full of holiday-ready styles for your warm weather wardrobe. Inspired by the ‘Brazilian Modernism’ movement, it’s already proving to be a hit with shoppers as the temperatures begin to rise.

With prices starting from £5.99, key pieces lean into the ‘knitwear for summer’ trend we’ve seen everywhere of late, including knitted kaftans and crochet pieces that have a raffia effect. Also going viral thanks to TikTok are searches for ‘sun dresses’, and the latest collection has plenty, including voluminous maxi-shapes and flowy tiered sleeveless mini-dresses.

In swimwear, bandeau pieces, crochet knit bikinis, triangle tops and tie-up details are a major theme. Accessories include chunky gold-tone jewellery, earring and necklaces inspired by seashells and coral, beads, raffia hats and bags, thong sandals, braided slip-ons, and scarves and sarongs in prints that match the clothes.

Colour is a big part of the new line, too with a cohesive colour palette of red, black, white with tones of buttermilk and green added into the mix. Shoppers can also expect contrasting trims, statement-making prints and pretty details like lace-up fronts, embroidery and flouncy skirts.

Eliana Masgalos, a Concept Designer at H&M said: “The flowy kaftans, voluminous dresses and skirt or short sets in the collection are relaxed, so we upped the drama with eye-catching prints in organic shapes and playing with volume – it feels powerful and confident, but there’s also this sensuality that feels very now,”

Here at The Mirror, we’ve taken a look at some of the top picks from the edit, and here are some we’ll be adding to our basket:

Tiered maxi skirt – £44.99

Tiered maxi skirt – £44.99
(H&M)

A fresh white cotton skirt is the ultimate alternative to jeans or denim shorts, and after Marks and Spencer’s almost completely sold out of their influencer loved Pure Cotton Maxi skirt, H&M’s take on the must-have staple has arrived in the nick of time.

These billowy skirts are the perfect blend of comfort and style, made from lightweight fabrics to keep you cool. Its neutral hue also means it acts as a blank canvas, allowing for endless styling possibilities, so there’s no wonder fashion enthusiasts are dying to get their hands on one.

The long, glared skirt offers a loose fit with gathered tiers for added volume, and a high waist for a flattering finish .

Padded-cup High-leg Bandeau swimsuit – £18.99

(H&M)

For a modern take on a Baywatch beach moment, this Padded-cup High-leg Bandeau swimsuit is a dream. Also available in black and a white lacey option, the fully lined bandeau swimsuit has a concealed silicone trim at the top which will prevent it from slipping down and avoids any awkward tan lines.

Complete with side support and cups with removable inserts, it shapes the bust and provides good support, and has been designed with high-cut legs that will make it look like you’ve got pins for days.

Sequined fishnet halterneck dress – £15.99

Sequined fishnet halterneck dress – £15.99
(H&M)

As for a beach cover up, this long, fitted fishnet dress will still show off your swimwear while offering a little bit of coverage. Its glittery threads and all-over shimmering sequins not only makes it born for catching the light at the beach, but would be perfect for trips to Ibiza and music festivals like Glastonbury.

At a purse-friendly £15.99 , the halterneck design and low cut back make it a really sultry piece – though with it being unlined, I’m not certain how comfortable it would be to sit down in.

Sandals – £18.99

An elevated upgrade to your 90p Primark flip flops, these leather-look sandals are the kind you can throw on with anything and look instantly more chic, whether you’re lounging by the pool, or heading out for dinner. Coming in black and brown colourways, they have a wide foot strap and narrow toe post for comfort, available in sizes 2-9 (though some are already in limited stock).

Long Kaftan Dress – £44.99

Long Kaftan Dress – £44.99
(H&M)

Speaking of heading out for food, this flowy kaftan dress is destined for dinners on balmy evenings abroad. The design features an airy A-line silhouette with long, wide sleeves, a deep V-neckline with delicate loops and long spaghetti laces with beaded ends.

The angled seam at the waist offers an elegant effect, while the high slit at the front and sides gives it a really feminine feel. The patterned version of the dress has a cream base with an abstract print of pink, red, green, yellow and other earthy tones, which makes accessorising super simple. The dress is also available in red if you want to lean into a more Mediterranean vibe. River Island has also been tapping into the beach dress trend with their Cream Paisley Embellished Beach Maxi Dress , proving their sure to be a hit as suitcases begin to get packed.

Broderie anglaise top – £37.99

Broderie anglaise top – £37.99
(H&M)

Broderie anglaise is a style that is absolutely timeless and comes back year after year, which makes this top a bit of a summer hero piece . The cropped, sleeveless top is made in an airy cotton weave with broderie anglaise and open sides, finished with two pairs of narrow ties at each side, bringing the bow trend into summer in a slightly more subtle way than some of the tie front tops we’ve been seeing.

I can see this pairing nicely with light wash blue denim jeans or shorts, or even the white skirt mentioned above. Either way, it’s a buy now, wear forever kind of piece , we think.

Bubble-hem poplin mini skirt – £12.99

Bubble-hem poplin mini skirt – £12.99
(H&M)

In an unlikely fashion cycle, bubble skirts are back, but with a fresher feel than the bulbous styles of the 1980s. This controversial silhouette has been spotted on multiple SS24 and AW24 runways in the US, and H&M is one of the first UK high street retailers to make the trend easily accessible for the summer months. Costing £12.99, the affordable skirt is a third cheaper than this similar design at Weekday , which is £39.

The fitted mini skirt is made in a crisp, cotton poplin with a high waist, is lined and features] concealed zip at one side, making it feel more expensive than its price tag would suggest. It comes in black and red, with matching bralette tops to complete the look for £9.99.

Elsewhere, PrettyLittleThing has also launched a summer range of outfits.
