Since the beginning of the operation in Kursk Oblast in Russia, Ukraine has captured 594 Russian soldiers and controls more than 100 settlements or 1,294 square kilometres.

Quote from Syrskyi: “As of today, we have taken control of 1,294 square kilometres of territory, which is 100 settlements… We have also significantly replenished the exchange pool: 594 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces have been captured on this front.”

Details: He reiterated that one of the objectives of the Kursk operation was to divert significant Russian forces from other fronts, in particular, from Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.
“At the moment, we can state that about 30,000 Russian servicemen have been redeployed to the Kursk front, and this figure is growing,” the chief said.
He emphasised that the Russians are trying to withdraw units from other fronts but are increasing their efforts on the Pokrovsk front.

- The operation in Kursk Oblast began on 6 August. On 10 August, on the fifth day of the Ukrainian army’s offensive deep into Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that Ukraine had brought the war to the Russian territory.
- On 13 August, Oleksandr Syrskyi informed Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Ukraine’s defence forces control 74 settlements in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. On the afternoon of 15 August, Syrskyi said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had advanced up to 1.5 kilometres on some axes in Kursk Oblast since the beginning of the day and now control 82 settlements in Russia.
- On 15 August, Ukrainska Pravda sources in the Security Service of Ukraine reported that the day before, special forces had captured 102 Russian soldiers in Kursk Oblast, Russia.
- Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces have shared footage of the first hours of the operation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The video shows demining, breaching the border, destroying Russian defence lines, air and artillery operations, and prisoners of war.
- Later, the 80th Air Assault Brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces shared footage from the early hours of the military operation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The troops breached the defence line, destroyed a border checkpoint, and captured over 50 prisoners.
- As of 20 August, Ukrainian forces control more than 1,260 sq km of territory and 93 settlements in Kursk Oblast, Russia.
