2K preparing to reveal a sequel to one of its biggest franchises
According to a recent post from the Summer Game Fest X account, “2K plans to reveal the next iteration in one of 2K’s biggest and most beloved franchises.” Which franchise the mysterious post is eluding to is anyone’s guess, as players have been waiting for Bioshock 4, Borderlands 4, and Mafia 4 for a long time now.
We know Hanger 13 is working on an “all-new Mafia project,” which was confirmed to be a “few years away” from release back in August 2022. As for Bioshock 4, we know it’s been in development for a good few years now with very little in the way of updates. A leak in 2021 suggested that Cloud Chamber was targeting a 2022 release for the game, which obviously never happened. Both games’ developments could potentially see them ready for an announcement this year, but the most likely candidate is probably Borderlands 4.
Earlier this year, 2K acquired the Gearbox Entertainment Company for $460 million and confirmed that Borderlands 4 was in active development. A leak last year also suggested that the team is working on Borderlands spin-off game, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2. With so much focus on the franchise, as well as the Borderlands movie’s release in August, now would be a great time for the company to announce a sequel.
In other big franchise sequel news, Take-Two has now revealed the GTA 6 release window.
