Partygoers were waiting in the Rich Club in San Luis Potosi to see a concert by Kevin Moreno – a well-known Mexican artist – when the tragedy occurred.

Horrifying footage captured on CCTV shows revellers smashing onto the main square below the nightclub after the glass barrier broke.

Five of the 16 people hurt are said to have suffered serious injuries.

They are being treated in the intensive care unit as of this morning.

Jorge Hernandez, the town hall official, said the nightclub had not been permitted to stage a concert.

He added: “The constant and uncontrolled presence of people attending this event caused one of the railings on the third floor of this building to give way under the pressure and lead to this tragedy which claimed the lives of two people.

“There are around 15 injured, some of them seriously.”

Soon after the tragedy authorities shut the nightclub and cordoned off the area for an investigation that is now underway.

The two people who tragically died in the incident have been named as Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente, 21, and Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso, 17.

Manuel’s pal Bufalos Cedral said in a tribute: “Today we have suffered a great loss.

“Our friend and companion Manuel has gone up to Heaven. Rest in peace Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente.”

Nine people tragically lost their lives last month in a similar accident after a stage collapsed at a campaign rally amid the presidential elections in San Pedro Garza Garcia.

The state governor said at the time at least 121 people were injured.
