A carbon monoxide leak in Georgia has left twelve people dead in their rooms, police confirmed.
The bodies of the 12 who died were found in their bedrooms on the second floor of a ski station, above an Indian restaurant, in Gudauri, North Georgia.
All those who died, including 11 foreigners and one Georgian, are believed to have been employees at the restaurant.
The deaths are currently being treated as ‘negligent manslaughter,’ with no violence suspected.
Police said: ‘Preliminary tests do not indicate any trace of violence on the bodies.’
An initial investigation revealed that an electric power generator was switched on a day before the dozen workers were found dead.
Investigators are working to confirm whether or not this was the cause of the carbon monoxide leak which is thought to have killed the workers.
The identities of the victims are yet to be released.
An autopsy has been ordered to confirm their cause of death.
The Gudauri ski resort is the largest and highest in Georgia, sitting 2000 metres above sea level.
The destination is situated at the top of Mount Kudebi in the north of the country.
